Ceria-Day One

"What's the Shield?" She says, and snickers a little as a few random government employees start yelling.

"That's good. The government has been... problematic for me in the past."

"It's a theoretical piece of equipment. It protects Xavier Corporations from just about everything, IF it works..."

"... If? And if it doesn't?"

"Well then, I made a terrible mistake in my calculation, theory, and construction," Earan says, looking thoughtful.

"And then what happens? Does it end up blowing up the world, or are we safe?"

"Nope, just the tower... I didn't put it up anywhere else..."

"Okay, good." She says, and returns to info hunting.

Earan rolls his eyes, making a quick call to his company before climbing back into the vehicle with Kaley.

"Well, what I do is a little... Technically illegal, so to speak. I have a small tendency to take a trophy or three from the possessions of the crime leaders I... putting it nicely, eliminate." She says, with a perfectly straight face.

"Whatever it is, are you sure it can take down a kitri ship? They're supposed to be made of some strange metal."

Earandil pulls out his shield. "Do you know what this does?"

"Blocks things?" She says, and quickly checks the Terra web for references.

"This was my father's, and it took me several years to understand it. At full power, it deflects, but it is a battery, and with a charge, it is capable of great destruction. I patterned the Shield after it, but on a much bigger scale."

"Hmm... Interesting. Not on the Terra web at all." She says, and starts searching government archives. "I wonder how that slipped through the Gov.Net. Can I see it real quick?"

"Here, but it might not help..." He hands her the shield, and it feels oddly lightweight, but also highly solid.

She fiddles with the device that she used to make the holograms, and waves it over the shield. It emits a green light. "Hmm... Interesting. My scans aren't showing unusual properties, except they are. Odd. I'll have to look more closely later."

"I tried to warn you, the truth is buried within the device," he says, picking it up and slipping it into its harness.

"In any case, if my tech couldn't get to it, then the Gov.Net wouldn't have even picked up a trace." She says, messing with her big machine again.

"It makes me wonder how my father built it..."

"Your father was an elf, right?" She says, and then flinches. "Cover your ears!" She says, as the machine starts to emit a screeching sound.

Earan clamps his hands over his ears, flinching.

The screeching goes up above human hearing, and then comes down to the deep, low notes, making the whole truck shake. Then, finally, it stops. "Sorry, it was doing a systems check. The audio on this thing decided it needed a reset."

Earan slowly releases his ears. "To answer your earlier question, yes, at least, that's what I was told he was..."

"That might explain it. Elves all got different magic than humans, so he could have used some of it in the shield or something like that." She says, and presses another button. The machine gives of some random flashes, and settles down. "That's better."
