Chapter two:
Kaylen woke up to her son bouncing on her bed, smiling and laughing. Seeing this made her smile as well. "Come on, let me get up." She said, and he got off the bed. "I see you're in a good mood. What do you want to do today?"
"Can we go explore? Can we, can we, can we please?" He said, smiling and laughing.
"Why not. But first we must eat." She said, and prepared food for them both. Yon ate fast, excited by the idea of going out and looking around his new home.
When they had both finished, Yon ran to the door, and Kaylen opened it. It was a bright, sunny day, with only a few clouds in sight. The twin suns of Myrra, Eplis and Sayl, slowly spun in their intricate dance, while the world worked beneath them.
Yon looked around him, running this way and that way, followed closely by his mother. He went to each and every fountain, and looked into them. He always loved fountains, and always took a few minutes just to watch them. It spoke a bit about his future, but that is a story for later.
After the fountains, he wanted to see the shops. "Okay, okay, but we can't buy anything right now."
"Okay!" He said, running to the shops.
While she followed her son to make sure he didn't get lost, she saw many different races, even some of the aforementioned demons. She avoided getting close to them, as they were a bit ruthless when it came to getting things done. Finally, Yon stopped at one shop. It was named
The Focused Eye and in it's shelves were crystals, potions, and spell books. "Ooohhh... Can we go in here?"
Kaylen looked in the shop, sighed, and said "Okay. You always love these kind of shops, don't you?" She smiled.
"They're neat!" He grinned as he pushed the door open. He walked in, staring at the crystals, particularly at a small red one on a necklace. "Mother? Can I pleease have this? Please?" He said, taking it to her.
She sighed again, still smiling. "Okay, but that's the only thing you can get."
"Yay!" He ran to the back of the store, where the owner was, followed by Kaylen.
"What will you be purchasing today, Miss? Or are you just browsing?" The man asked, turning to face the.
"Actually, we were going to buy this necklace." She replied, holding it out. They continue to talk, and she bought the necklace. As they walk out of the store, she handed it to Yon. "Be careful not to lose it." He put the necklace on, happy that he got it.
"I won't, I promise!"
"That's good. Why don't we head home now?"
"Okay!"
As they walked, the shadow jumped again to its master. "They have bought the necklace, master."
"Good. Keep watch on the boy, I feel he will one day have much power."
"Yes, master." The shadow replied. Unknown to it's master, it was beginning to form it's own opinions about its targets. It thought that the boy was the most adorable and precious thing on the planet, and his mother was probably the most beautiful, excluding a couple of angels and demons.
The spell that was used to create the shadow was supposed to prevent it from becoming intelligent, but this time, its master messed up, and the shadow's mind was uncontrolled. Its master wasn't exactly evil, although he was one of Myrra's darker mages. He was just rather violent in obtaining what he wanted.
The shadow jumped back to them, as they entered the house again. They continued to set things around the house, Yon knocking a couple of things over every few minutes, while Kaylen laughed and helped him up each time, both of them smiling.
But now our story takes a turn to another land, one of the four elemental lands of Myrra. This is the plane of water, a large lake with small islands.The great cities that once stood here, built of concrete and steel, fell a long time ago, leaving a wasteland. It was only populated now by the rare water mage and the elusive water elementals.
On the largest island, Erra, two mages could be seen. The younger one's robes moved like water as she twisted and turned to dodge her foe's assault. She turned to face her attacker, an older woman with eyes like ice and a voice to match.
"Come now, this is too easy!" Said the older one as she threw spears of ice at the younger one, "Syr, this is too easy!"
"No! I will not go with you!" Syr said, dodging the ice and throwing some of her own.
The woman smiled, catching the spears and breaking them. "If you will not come willingly, we will just have to take you." She said, turning into water for a moment before appearing behind Syr, holding her so that she couldn't move.
"Let me go!" Syr screamed, as the woman teleported them both to another place.
"Master, we are here." She said, as they appeared in the center of a large cave. Surrounding them were five chairs. In them sat three men, and two women. In the highest chair was an old man.
"Thank you, Risana. Please let go of her, there will be plenty of time for that later."
Risana quickly let go of Syr, blushing.
Must he always do that? she thought, annoyed.
"Syr, you have committed many crimes against us, and ran from our laws many times. It is my job to punish you for this. But Risana, in your many attempts to capture her, you have caused nearly as much damage as her. Because of this, we have decided that your punishment is bonded exile. You shall be sent to the human lands, not to return for twenty years. A small house is prepared for both of you there." The man spoke, watching their reactions carefully. Syr did not seem angry or surprised, in fact, she seemed almost happy with this, while Risana was extremely startled, her mouth opening and closing, unable to find anything to say.
"S-sir! There must be some mistake!" Risana said, confusion and anger evident in her voice.
"There is no mistake, we have thought long and hard on this matter, and this is the best course of action. Do you defy our will?"
Risana instantly calmed down a bit, ashamed of her outburst. "N-no sir."
"Good. Now follow those guards and they will escort you to the teleportation chamber."
Risana and Syr followed the guards, Syr was smiling, while Risana was silent, her head bowed in a respectful manner. "Here you go. The teleporter will take you there." The guards said, opening the doors to a smaller chamber. In it was a short, bald man, who looked up at them.
"Ah! You're here! Of course, your teleportation powers must be limited before you go, otherwise exile means nothing!" He said, speaking very quickly. "Just touch this gem, and you'll be limited to close range teleportation." He added, holding out a large blue gem.
Syr touched it quickly, wanting to get it over with.
Never was any good at long range teleports in the first place. she thought, as she felt her power shift.
Risana touched it gently, and her teleportation was lost to her as well. She mentally sighed.
There goes getting away from her. She thought, directing a quick glare at Syr.
The man smiled. "Don't worry. Everything can change. You might like the human lands." He said, as he put the gem into a box. "Now just stand in that circle, and it'll be over before you know it!"
They walked into a circle that appeared before them, which glowed with magic power. Once they were both on it, the man spoke the incantation, and they both felt as if they were in the rain, and then, they actually were in rain, outside of a smallish hut.
Such nice rain, not like the loud thunderstorms at home. Syr thought immediately. "Let's head inside, then." She said to Risana, in her happy-bouncy voice.
"Why are you so happy? You just got banished from your home for twenty years!" Risana replied, annoyed.
"Cause I'd planned on coming here eventually anyway!" Syr said, smiling as she walked into the hut.
"Grrr... What ever." Risana said, walking in as well.
The hut had two bedrooms, a kitchen/dining room, a bathroom, and a living room. The living room was the largest, and had already been filled with furniture. The bedrooms were designed so that each would enjoy them somewhat. Risana's was ice themed, with ice blue well... everything. Syr's bedroom was a more friendly yellow and blue pattern, and had a window that looked out into the wide open plains on one side of the house. The house bordered the edge of the human lands, and Risana's room looked over this edge.
"Well, at least they thought to give me the edge room. Bah." Risana mumbled, looking out at the other islands.
"Oh come on, it's not that bad. It could have been worse." Syr said, standing in the doorway.
"Really?! How could it be worse?!" Risana yelled, angered by Syr's simple acceptance of this.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I had been expecting a death sentence."
"And I've spent entire years of my life try to catch you, and when I do, what do I get? A legal slap in the face, and banishment!" Risana turned to glare at Syr.
"So? What would you have done there, anyway? Your only job was to catch me. Face it, you wouldn't have liked staying anyway."
"At least I would have had a choice."
"It doesn't matter now, I'm going to sleep." Syr finished, walking away. She went to her room, and fell asleep. Risana did the same after a while.
