Project Moongate

Everyone would hear the announcement, in a young girl's voice. "Gravity has been turned off. I would... -Suggest-, you stay where you are. I can't make any promises of what may happen if you are found out in the hallways with the gravity off." The voice is oddly menacing, and Kasey shudders, hurrying to the nearest room.

Alex fiddles some more. "Elain! Do you still have the hyper sonic system analyzer we picked up?" Elain nods and hands it over. Alex uses it, doing weird things to the control panel.

There's sounds of footsteps is the halls, light and unhuried.

Thomas glances around when he hears the footsteps, not enjoying the lack of gravity at all. The footsteps threw him, after all, how could a person have footsteps without gravity? Immediately after recalling the laconic gravity, Thomas vomits. A lot. He had always failed the spatial distortion tests as a young man, but in his desperation, he had swallowed the bile and the vomit during the tests to reach Moongate, and had scraped together a passing mark by focusing on the tasks he was supposed to work on. As he had nothing to focus on this time, he vomits again and again, finally dry heaving himself repeatedly into the wall, moaning as his stomach cramps. He blamed his family. There was a long line of people with inner ear problems, starting with his far back ancestor of eight hundred years or so.
"You'd think it would have been bred out," he mutters, clearly angry.

The footsteps continue, seeming to get closer.

Alex either doesn't care or doesn't notice, and the gravity fluctuates up and down as he starts stabilizing it.

Elain seems to be accustomed to such fluctuations, possibly after spending so much time in the gravity specialist's company.

They stop outside the room Thomas's in. For a long moment, there's silence, then a soft giggle fills the room, and it goes pitch black.

Bubbles eyes flip to floodlights, as Thomas fills the room with a surprising variety of cursing for a man of his higher learning. A metal sphere floats to him from the wooden box, phrasing right through the wood to reach him, floating just above his shoulder. Thomas' only thought, unfortunately, is to recall all of the old horror films he had seen, and how the person who was caught in the dark room was always the first one to die.

"Just hurry and do it," Thomas announces in his usual clipped English tones. "Be sure to clean the blood after. I'd hate to be called untidy when I'm gone simply because you couldn't bother to clean up after yourself."

"Got it!" Alex says, hitting a few more buttons. Gravity reasserts itself rather suddenly, at the perfect balance, a litle bit lighter than Earth gravity.

The presence giggles, and it's evidently outside of the light. Thomas would feel a sharp pain in his skull as it tried to knock him out.

The sound of ringing metal sounds through the ship, as his skull is struck. Thomas chuckles a little as it strikes, and then slides off.
"I would aim for someplace else, if I were you. Merely a suggestion, however. Entirely your choice."
The skin of one side of his skull seems to have slid slightly, and appears loose on his skull.
"I confess, I made certain.... modifications to key bone and musculature systems. A man should never tamper with his brain functions, however. My ancestor's knowledge and words, passed down quite a ways. If you really must try to kill me, try aiming for the kidneys. Much less protection than the skull."

It huffs, instead trying to job a needle into him.

"I really wish you'd use a different implement. I have a great terror of them. What is your goal here? Would you like me to accompany you somewhere? Because it's much simpler than attempting to kill or stun me. I wish you'd simply state your intentions, or at the very least do a competent job. No offense intended, but you aren't very good at this. Making the room dark kickstarted my glands, heightening my perceptions. Your warning laughter alerted me that someone had entered the room. If I did not have the desire of a quick death in battle passed down to me by my ancestors, this might actual be challenging for you. As it is, I'm half tempted to fight harder simply due to your incompetence. I'm concerned that you may not do it in a fashion to my liking."

There's a huff, and if the needle successfully entered, a knock-out drug would be injected.

"As you wish," Thomas muttered, spinning in one quick motion, and jabs the needle into himself.
"There. May it bring you happiness." Thomas declares, seeming not to slur or he slowed. The drug courses slowly through his veins, taking twice as long as it should, before young Abernathy collapses to the ground, winking out into the darkness just before losing consciousness.

The thing huffs. "Finally..."
Gravity would fluctuate for several hours, the power failing twice. When everything came back to normal, and the drug had left Thomas's system, there would be a corpse lying on his bed.

The floating metal orb observes everything, floating down to where the corpse was.

It seems to be a young-ish man, and if there was any knowledge of the crew that was supposed to be here, it might recognize it.
Partially, that is.

The orb floats down near the face, shining a powerful spotlight upon what is left of it.

Parts of it have been... Replaced, with an unknown substance.

A small tube exits the sphere, reaching down to take a sample.

It's a liquid, mostly solidified at this point.

The sphere scoops some of the gelatinous substance up, retracting the tube whilst its internal sensors scan the foreign substance.

It would take a while to scan. By this point, the drug would be fading from Thomas's system.

Thomas slowly shakes his head, woozy and far more fatigued than he felt he should be. Retching a little, he attempts to stand, but finds himself weak as a kitten, and barely able to move even slightly.
